BIOGRAPHY Patricia’s wish for her art is to give the viewer pause; a moment of quiet reflection from the every day hustle and bustle; to offer a moment of peace, beauty, joy, and a memory of a happy time or place. Patricia’s interest in art dates back to some of her earliest childhood memories. However, it wasn’t until she reached her 50’s, in 2009, that life offered Patricia the opportunity to persue her dream of becoming an artist. Additionally, and by accident, Patricia found creating art helped her work through the pain of family loss. She began her studies by attending colour study, oil painting and pastel painting workshops. Pouring over numerous books from her extensive library offered additional knowledge over the years. Some of her favorite books include: “Carlson’s Guide to Composition,” by John F. Carlson; “Composition of Outdoor Painting” by Edgar Payne; “Pastels Unleashed” by Margaret Evans; and, “Wabi-sabi Painting with Cold Wax” by Serena Barton. Patricia’s earliest works focused on painting the natural world of florals, landscapes and cloudscapes in acrylic but she quickly moved to studying and working with oils as she prefered the “openess” of oils and the ability to blend colors on the canvas vs the too fast drying time of acrylics. While attending an art convention in North Carolina, filled with muliple instructor workshops using all mediums, Patricia found soft pastels. With the help of Karen Margulis, an online instructor, it became evident that Patricia was not going to be able to stick with just one medium! But Patricia didn’t stop there. During the early days of the pandemic in 2020, Patricia stumbled onto cold wax medium. When she learned she could use cold wax with her first love, oils, she was smitten. Thus, Patricia’s introduction to the Wabi-sabi style of painting abstracts with cold wax mixed with oils. Patricia also continues to experiment with brushes and palette knives, enjoying the unique qualities of both. This keeps Patricia’s artwork fresh and never stale or predictable.
