Patricia, an oil painter since 2009, works out of her Eden, PA studio. In the early days of the pandemic, she found cold wax oil painting medium. Soon after, Patricia discovered the Cold Wax Academy which is run by award winning cold wax artists, Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin. Patricia joined the academy and continues her deep dive study of this oil painting medium. Patricia’s non-objective abstract work is inspired by nature which is depicted through her color palette. Her work is emotional, intuitive, serene, and energetic. She enjoys adding the occasional collage elements, and the use of additive and deductive lines. Cold wax gives the artist the opportunity to create many layers, sometimes up to 20 or more in a painting. Patricia presses textures into the layers with her favorite tools, and scrapes away parts of the layers to reveal what is underneath. These and other techniques keeps Patricia’s artwork fresh, never stale or predictable.
Patricia’s wish for her art is to give the viewer pause; a moment of quiet reflection from the every day hustle and bustle; to offer a moment of peace, and perhaps invoke a memory of a happy time or place.
